- Most Memorable Flight So many to choose from: 500 km flight from Gawler to Quorn return (Feb 2004). 7.5 hours duration on a 43 degree day. Strong northerly wind, took 5 hours to get to Quorn and only 2.5 to get home. Landed at 1930 Central summertime! Managed to take a photograph of a microburst from the air. Other flight was my Gold height gain (2004) in South Australia's mid north, I spent 45 minutes digging myself out of a hole at Morgan, managed to get to 12,000' finally. Wave flights in the Flinder's Ranges in South Australia back in 1999. Great lift, too much cloud, no supplementary O2, had to come down, but was going up like a rocket. And of course, my first flight in a glider was memorable, because I discovered just how much fun it was!!!
- Started Flying March 1987
Love flying because of the view. I was spellbound the first time I went in a TAA T-jet in 1974. I made many lego models of planes as a younster. I dreamed about flying, but then as I got older realised that powered flight would not be cheap. I started at Adelaide Uni and had heard that there was the Adelaide Uni Gliding Club. I though that any flying was better than no flying, so I joined. I went solo after 3 months (7.5 hours flying time) and have never looked back. I started instructing in 1995 as well as getting my private pilot's licence. I joined Adelaide Soaring Club as well. I have spent many hours in the back seat, although recently, due to the arrival of my two daughters I have had to curtail my flying activity somewhat. I moved across to WA in early 2005 and joined Beverley Soaring Society. Hope to resume at full strength soon as my daughters get older and I am let out more often. |
